The 9th Annual
PlayStation 2 UK B-Boy Championships 2004
2nd & 3rd October @ Brixton Academy
"The original and best B-Boy showcase in the world. Welcome to the
greatest show on earth" - Hip Hop Connection
Following on from last year's 10,000-capacity sell-out weekend, this
year's PlayStation® 2 UK B-Boy Championships is back at the capital's
spiritual home of hip-hop, Brixton Academy. The two-day event is set be
bigger than ever, showcasing the awesome B-Boying skills of the world's
finest Breaking crews, Solo breakers and, for the first time ever,
Poppers.
Since its inception in 1995, the PS2® UK B-Boy Championships has gone
from a little known event to one of the most spectacular showcases on
earth. This year the championship brings together a host of the finest
breakers, MC's, DJ's and artists making this a must see event for anyone
interested in B-Boy culture. And, as has become customary, this year's
event is hosted by hip-hop legends Crazy Legs (Rock Steady Crew) and Afrika Islam (Universal Zulu Nation).
Day 1: Solo and Popping Titles
The world's breaking elite will meet to establish who is the ultimate
B-Boy. We bring together sixteen of the world's most revered dancers
(one breaker from each of the crews plus a further eight soloists) to
fight it out, one-on-one, for the title of UK PS2 B-Boy Solo Champion.
Also, due to popular demand, eight of the most amazing body Poppers will
take to the stage in the first UK Popping title.
Day 2: The Crew
The greatest breaking crews on earth battle it out on the ultimate B-Boy
stage! Defending champions Skill Methodz (USA) will be the team to beat
as they look to win their 2nd title in a row but strong competition will
come from teams including the UK (Ultimate Kaos), Canada (Supernaturalz),
Denmark (Natural Effects), Japan (Dream Team), Korea (Drifterz), Russia
(Top 9) and France (Vagabonds).
"This is the first time since 1995 that a UK B-Boy team is in with a
shot to win the title," said DJ Hooch, the organizer of the PS2 UK
B-Boy
Championships.
The weekend will also be flooded with live music and DJs who will bring
the atmosphere to boiling point and provide some brilliant sounds. The
awesome Ugly Duckling play their unique style of party hip-hop live on
Saturday whilst on the Sunday the brilliant Breakestra (Stones Throw)
will providing the soundtrack with their heavy funk fused vibe. The
legendary Break-DJ Leacy, DJ Fingaz and Shortee Blitz will take control
of the turntables playing over both days.

The 'b' in B-Boy stands for 'break': break-boy. The term 'break' refers
to the break-sections of records which were extended by a DJ
manipulating two copies of the same track : A B-Boy would dance to these
'breaks' the media then coined the phrase 'Breakdancing' from this. Its
correct name is B-Boying'. This is the name created by 'Kool DJ Herc',
who was the first man to play breaks in this way.
'Popping' is a popping movement of different parts of your body,
achieved by tensing the muscles. It is very rhythmic, and matches the
popping rhythmic style of the music.
