This
Crew don't really fit into what I had planned for the site, i.e. they have major
distribution, sell records by the truckload and probably have all the exposure
they need, but they did get in contact and asked me to feature their stuff.
The Whole Damn Yey! (T.W.D.Y.)'s first release,
the April 2000 12 track 'Derty Werk' [Buy]
was quite successful and included the West
coast hit 'Players Holiday' [Buy]
on which Too $hort guested and which sampled Bill
Wither's 'Lovely Day'. It received plenty of airplay and placed in the US Billboard charts
during 1999. This time the TWDY members were: Rappin' 4-Tay, Captain Sav 'Em and
Ant Banks. E-40, B-Legit and Mac Mall also
feature on the album.
Anthony H. Forte (Rappin'
4-Tay) from Antioch, CA has gold and platinum record sales behind him. He has
also toured extensively and recorded with a number of major artists including
Tupac, Master P, Eightball, Rick James, RBL Posse and Lighter Shade of Brown. He
has won awards and got two songs on the triple Platinum 'Dangerous Minds'
Soundtrack album.
Ant Banks has been pioneering the Oakland sound
and in August 2000 he released 'Lead the
Way' [Buy], the second full length
release from TWDY. 'Lead the Way' is also the first single from the album of the
same name and soon after release was placed up the charts.
TWDY has a new artist line up this time around, which replaces Rappin' 4-Tay with Dolla Will. 'Lead the Way' has the usual host of guest appearances including Too $hort, B-Legit, Ice T, E-40, Kurupt and King Tee to name a few.
Ant
Banks started his career in the music industry at the age of fourteen DJ'ing at house parties and local clubs
and has had many very successful releases. Banks produced all five Spice 1 albums as well as E-40
(who went gold) and Too $hort (who went platinum). Prior to TWDY Ant also
released 'Sittin' On Something Phat' 1993, 'Big Badass' 1994 and 'Big Thangs'
1997.
Dolla Will, now signed with $hort Records is an up and coming star backed by Too $hort himself and nurtured by Ant Banks.
Dolla Will started his career writing poetry and what started as a hobby turned into a full-fledged profession that landed him his own record deal. "My homies saw how the ladies liked my poems and they wanted me to write poems for them to give to their girls. I kept writing and one day I put my poems to music and just started rapping them, it all just flowed and I knew then that I could not only write, but I could rap too!"
Captain Save'm aka Kevin Dixon is the third member and his name is based loosely on the E-40 hit
'Captain Save a Hoe'. Captain Save'm has been in the music industry for years
too. As a member of the Oakland posse, he came to know Ant Banks well as they collaborated on several projects. In 1995 Captain Save'm performed on The Luniz'
'I Got 5 On It' which nearly sold a million records! Captain Save'm has also recorded with Too $hort on his
'Can't Stay Away' album released on Jive Records and has recorded two songs for Suge Knight's Death Row release
'The Chronic 2000' which the RIAA certified gold.
TWDY is promoted as 'THE Oakland Super group'! And they suggest you 'Perk up your ears and
listen'. Pomona based Thump Records are distributed through Universal Music and
Video Distribution.
