With a name like Chopped Herring and a label manager called Pro Celebrity Golf these guys must either be completely loopy, or on some next level shit. Either way producer Jay Glaze, the Glazeator and MCs Rod Hotley and Sqaurehead are serving up some humorous shit that make you beam from ear to ear. This is the second release on Chopped Herring Records based in Manchester, a three track affair entitled Staunch Liaison. The first track Get A Grip opens with a great break chopped sweetly, Hammond organs with rich double bass and crusty hard sampled drums. Rod Hotley twists verbs and nouns effortlessly to turn nonsense into something coherent. Completely random mutterings from ginger pubes, being blessed with many tentacles and lines like, 'I sneeze on your press quotes, flip a little green one and wipe it on my sleeve notes' all make this highly amusing and quite clever.

Homegroan also features the Manc. tones of guest MCs Sqaurehead and is based around a guitar break and a couple of female vocal samples. Both Rod Hotley continue to spit completely unrelated rhymes which are pretty amusing again, especially the rain dance performance which is delivered before the shout outs and outro.

These guys have the skill of flipping totally unconnected and unrelated absurdities in their rhymes which somehow fit together. Hard to describe the motivation behind the tracks other than for comedic effect. The last track Staunch Liaison, which is also the title track is also the hardest, getting as close to a battle as these guys do. The tempo is a touch slower, and is dominated by the extremely crusty snare. A heavy bass and occasional stabs make for classic Hip Hop fodder. Anyone on the receiving end of this should be as scared as if they we being attacked by a clown with a flower. That isn't to say that clowns can't be particularly vicious, or make you split your own
sides. Get out there and track this material down, its worth it.
