Madrox - Adrenochrome EP [Blessed B Entertainment]
Madrox
Madrox is a Hip Hop artist in his 20's from Mid West England, who after three years in the game has produced his entirely self funded five track Adrenochrome EP, named after the underground drug comprised of pure human Adrenaline. Madrox's influences come from his previous love of rock music, and he makes all his music on his home computer. His style is somewhat different to much of what is on offer these days,

The Adrenochrome EP contains 5 quite distinctive tracks which showcases Madrox's quite original approach to constructing his beats. Whereas the majority of artists will liberate sounds from Funk, Soul and other more generally known sources of breaks, Madrox chooses his own route and is taking 80's synth pop and rejuvenating it into dope Hip Hop with an obvious UK tint.

The EP opens up with Cage Around The Sun, a track which Madrox considers to be one of his best, as he explains, "It is a giant build up of emotion - explaining toughts of escapism and inner analysing". The production by Sindustry along with the main string sample fits in well with sentiment of the lyrics.

Madrox The next track, Chapeter One - The Angel With Clipped Wings is a general overview of Madrox's opinions on religion and self worth. Naught's beat makes use of a shuffling break and guitar.

The Last Diary… is all about armageddon, which with the recent War in Iraq is very topical at the moment. This track was produced by Noviss combines a piano, gentle bass and a tapping Hi Hat and considering the variety of producers the product has a coherent feel. The chorus features softly sung lyrics "Little boy don't cry, please dry your eyes, cos every little thing is going to be all right" just adding to the seriousness of the topic.

All the tracks are quality especially because of the soul searching meaningful lyrics. Sunrise/Sunset is no different. For this track Madrox sampled up Jedi Mind Tricks' Animal Rap track cos he liked it so much, and the result is pretty impressive. I believe it was this tune that was recently entered into the BBC 1Xtra demo competition and was in fact a winner. The track has dark overtones, especially due to the pained female vocals in the chorus, but at the same time the lyrics give room for fulfilment and upliftment.

The final track, Coke & Oatmeal is all about the class system and Madrox's position within it. The track has a slightly different vibe due to the different lyrical approach taken by Madrox. On this one the lyrics are semi whispered/spoken/sung and give the track a pretty light feel. The beat on this one is by Naught.

Madrox maintains that more than anything his music is about emotions and is especially proud of being told that his music has influenced and changed people's perceptions of certain subjects. Madrox is trying to put together a live show, but without a regular DJ he is having a few problems keeping his performances regular. No doubt with the effort this guy is putting in his simple hope of getting his music to more people is becoming a reality.
