Nate James :: Biog [OneTwo]

Nate James describes himself as a soul singer. He is much more than that though. Not only is he the hottest up & coming artist in the UK right now, but he is also a potential global star, with the look, the image and the sound to take on the world. Set The Tone is Nate’s first single and in OneTwo Records he has found the right home for this debut with a label that shares his vision.

In a world where everyone has grown tired of manufactured music and artists, Nate James is the perfect remedy. Having recorded his debut album independently, Nate has enjoyed the freedom to develop his own style, both musically and visually. A born performer, anyone who witnessed his recent live shows (he’s played sensational sets at venues across the UK recently including MTV’s Baselounge in London) have left knowing that they’ve witnessed something special. While his vocal delivery is unique it hasn’t stopped the comparisons to legends such as Maxwell, Lenny Kravitz and Stevie Wonder!

With more live shows on the horizon Nate is continuing to build a fanbase, which he hopes will stick with him as his career goes from strength to strength. Through his own website www.natejames.com fans can download Set The Tone, which has been supported by tastemaker DJs such as Trevor Nelson on Radio 1; it reached #1 on Choice FM’s R&B chart and climbed to the A list on 1Xtra. Now with a colourful video shot in the States, this introductory single looks set to bring Nate the success he deserves, while providing a taste of what is to come from this future star.

His debut album features co-writes with some of the top names in the industry including Eg White, Rob Davis and Peter Vetesse. Nate James is clearly one of the most exciting talents to come out of the UK in recent years. Watch him fly in 2005!

Music Press Comments

TOUCH MAGAZINE
“A suave British newcomer who stands out from the pack already even though this tune’s only currently available as a download.”

MUSIC WEEK
"With a major deal pending, this MW playlist regular is well on his way to becoming R&B's next big thing" Playlist feature 3/7/04
"Quality pop R&B from this newcomer, who has just been added to the 1Xtra playlist" Music Week Playlist 8/5/04

ECHOES
"The best independent R&B release we've heard in ages" Mr Drew
"Nate James is a name we'll be hearing more of this year. If his single Set The Tone is anything to go by then his team >4 Management have got hold of a special talent. OK, smooth midtempos come a dime a dozen but this one has all the ingredients of a really good R&B record: great vocals, attitude and an excellent song." Mo Juice - June Issue

RECORD OF THE DAY
"Introducing Nate James: future star, exceptional singer, and real songwriting talent who's itching to push the boundaries like a British Prince. Set The Tone is the track that has successfully introduced him to media." RotD 11/05/04

IDJ MAGAZINE
"Currently unsigned, James has the potential to become a truly massive star with the right support behind him. This debut single hits the spot and covers all the right bases: the Craig David/Kevin Little-ish tremor in his voice will appeal to the poppier end of the urban market, while the Maxwell-like groove will undoubtedly find favour with the more purist crowd. Somebody needs to get on this guy's case pronto - he's going all the way" 5/5 TOP TUNE June Issue

DJ MAG
"Warning: DJs and A&Rers, this unsigned act deserves to be discovered and fast! I think he’s a Brit, in which case the quality of the production and his vocal talent can match anything an American r&b or soulster can offer. This is a fantastic r&b/soulster with a great rhythm. Bop your head to the beats, and let his voice charm your soul. A marvellous blinder!" 5/5 SUREPLAYER

BBC SUFFOLK ONLINE
“Nate not only has an outstanding voice but also has the image to match. His unmissable halo of hair stands him out in the crowd, along with a unique sense of style and adorably cute good looks.”
