Here we have a proper cross country collaboration. Optimas Prime the multi-headed transformer DJ robot from Cardiff has hooked up with some heavy MCs and has laid down some serious beats for them. This comes on the back of the Voidville LP which initially got the name of Optimas Prime out there. Optimas Prime is primarily a turntablist collective which features the likes of Monkey, Stagga and Touchy Muff on the decks, behind the desks and generally when they need a vocalist they'll draft some in.

For the A side they have hooked up with some of the dopest MCs in Brixton, SE5, who have been waiting for their chance to burst on the scene - Pyramoya, a crew that roll deep and on this track the members that step forward on the mic are: Redrum, GC the Gifted Child, Royal Rebel and Hazardous. The beat is sick, a supercharged and constant throbbing bass when coupled with the tremendous flows makes Pyramoya Anthem a real powerful bumper. The change in the bass pitch drops sweetly and adds extra urgency to the delivery. This is real jump up material which should have people pogoing for all they are worth. I can't say all the MCs drop on the same level but the best is dope and the weakest is still quite tasty with the verbals and within each verse there are points where the MCs ride the rhythm perfectly. There isn't really any chorus as such, just a pause for a bar or two before the raps re-commence with the next MC in the line up. This is the first time Pyramoya have dropped on wax and if they can follow this up with as much energy and skill I want to hear more.

On the B side Optimas Prime enlist the skills of much talked about old timer and ex-Fleapit member Junior Disprol. The whole Fleapit thing passed me by, but you can still hear Disprol's kinda abstract style here. For me he is a bit muddy and could come over clearer, but that could be part of the grimey style. Again the b-line is the main driver of the Revenge Of The Tramps track, it is a simplistic pulse which combined with the sparse beat and hypnotic rising high sine tone culminates in another fat track which rounds off with a whole load of electrical sounds. The final track on the b-side is repeated 'arghhh' and a fuzzy sound - ideal for you DJ's that have worn out all your existing 'arghh' sounds.

This is the first release from Dial Up Records and shows promising signs for the future. There are records dropping like rain at the moment, but realistically there are only a few that deserve to have made it beyond the walls of the bedroom of their creators. This release is one of them. It is heavy and has its own feel and therefore is something that needs to be checked out. Also slated for release from the Dial Up records lair is a full length LP from Optimas Prime, and a Battle Tools weapon as well as several 12"'s the first of which, should everything go to plan should be an interesting collaboration of Blacktrix and the Dead Residents (Jnr. Disprol's new cew) with Optimas Prime providing the production again. Provided these guys can get over that initial struggle of getting the label to break even there could be a long and healthy life for these guys.
