R-I-P :: Biography [Spit Fire]
R-I-P
R-I-P
R-I-P
R-I-P stands for: ‘The Rippah-Inspekt“A”Rhyme-Pact’ This 2 man Crew consists of a South London-based MC who goes by the name, “The Rippah” and fellow North London lyricist by the name of “Inspekt“A”Rhyme”.

R-I-P formed back in 1999 - they met at secondary school in 1997 and have been performing and writing Hip-Hop for 6 years now. First spitting over instrumentals and recording it basement-style with 2 mics and a set of turntables, then stepping into the Studio with self-produced beats. The crew cemented their recording relationship in 2000 when they recorded their first EP, entitled ‘The Perfect Crime EP’.

The Rippah then left school, and has achieved great things in his own right. This includes performing as a hype man for label-mate Conflix which later allowed him to spit alongside Conflix on early morning show with Letitia on BBC 1xtra for a 15 minute presentation. He then successfully entered and won an MC Battle judged by Yungun (Dupa Styles) on 1xtra which as a result landed a set at The World DMC championships at Brixton Academy on the bill alongside Kyza and Klashnekoff (Terra Firma).

While juggling his music and studies Inspekt“A”Rhyme managed to record a jacking-for-beats style promo, of which two tracks made it onto the SpitFire Rec. & Illegal Aid Ent. Mixtape appropriately titled, “Who Run Tings? Vol. 1” (“…Humour and intelligence on abundant display here” ***, Hip Hop Connection).

In the summer of 2003 they got through to the finals of 106.9 Choice FM’s Talent Contest, “Rapology 2003”, performing in front of thousands at Croydon’s fair field halls – which was actually their first public performance as a group. Since then R-I-P have performed at a various occasions including UKHH.com’s Xmas Bash, combined they have been billed alongside: Kashmere, Ghost, Jehst, Lewis Parker, Terra Firma, Verb T, Iceberg Slim, DJ Blakey and DJ IQ - just to name a few.

They have since recorded a wealth of tracks together as well as sparring in many ciphers and dropping verses on many open mic nights which allowed both of them to develop their styles, character and confidence on the microphone. The key element to R-I-P is the use of concepts and not just spitting for the sake of it, showing the more creative and poetic side of the crew and also being easily distinguishable in our flourishing Hip-Hop scene.

Now they are set for the nationwide release of there debut single which officially dropped on 23rd August, the double A-side; ‘Paper Chase / Angels & Devils’ on SpitFire Rec. Producer Chemo, Co-CEO of Illegal Aid Entertainment and Frontline, was brought in to deliver his signature sound for R-I-P, and to engineer the single. In other projects, Chemo has collaborated with renowned American artist’s Cage and Jakki the Motamouth, and featured on internationally distributed compilation albums. His crew, Frontline, who have just released their debut single, Poizun Penz b/w Don't Bizness also make an appearance on the bonus track. 2004 set to be an important year for R-I-P, SpitFire Rec. and indeed, the UK.
