Skinnyman ft. Roundhead - Creatures Of The Night CD [PM Muzik]
Skinnyman ft. Roundhead - Creatures Of The Night CD [PM Muzik]
Skinnyman seems to be one of those charmed characters. It might be right that he has had an unfortunate amount of run ins with the man and seems to have endured a lot more shit than many artists and setbacks such as the Talking Loud deal getting dropped as the label went down. Never the less he is rightly seen as one of the UKs finest and all this from regular live appearances and relatively little time on wax. Everything he has touched gains from his presence and with the public feinding for his Low Life LP which is slated to drop in the summer he is filling in the gap by returning to his local label, Pure Motion Muzik for what is surprisingly only their second release. This release should ensure the buzz that was started with the Fuck The Hook EP is continued for the next couple of months.

On this Creatures Of The Night track Skinny, now 28, gets busy in his own inimitable style and is joined by Kingston, Jamaica's Roundhead over a riddim track produced by Souljaze. Surprisingly the producer of the Vice riddim track, Souljaze hails from Norway, not a place usually associated with hardcore dancehall. The hand clap snare keeps the track running and across the into all manner of groaning, detuning toms make for a cacophonous sound. For the verses much of this subsides and the beat runs with a plinky piano. Roundhead fills out the track both singing and after Skinny's first verse drops his own chatted offering. Skinny drops his usual observational lyrics about the harsh realities of the street and how many people are currently getting banged up. The second verse concentrates on the drugs menace and there are many quotable lyrics, just to choose one, 'There are many paths in life, which one are you gonna take / are you gonna keep it real or keep it fake?'.

The tune has at the same time a painful off key element, but also rides along and is set to spawn many other versions. It is something a bit different from Skinny, but as ever he comes over strong and is well supported by Rounhead's vocals and the fresh riddim from Souljaze. The track also captures that vibe between Hip Hop and dancehall that is popular at the moment, so when it drops be sure to cop it.
