Guv'nors Committee - Special Agents CD [Guv'nors Committee]
The Guv'nors Committee have come into the Hip Hop scene after initially getting down with Garage. They started making music around 1998 and eventually the Special Agents Crew was born. The crew is essentially a four man set consisting of Rapid, Karnage, T4 and D'n'A. Over time they became regulars on 90.6FM where they hosted a Saturday night slot for over two years. During that same time they had the chance to play out in both London and the Midlands and also got into producing a number of tracks. Now production has become their main focus and this Violent Behaviour CD is the result so far. It comes in two versions the Cause which features Karnage & D'n'A and the Solution which features Myella Jane with production by Stealth B.

The Cause track has a moody opening of synth keys and low piano note to which a rhythmic squeak is added. The MCs are all about bigging up their own skills and do have a competent and furious delivery. It is a bit more deep than just that though as there is a didactic element to the lyrics which exposes many of the societal factors which could influence these guys to undertake Violent Behaviour. The track could do with a bit more variation and the chorus seems to be repeated quite often, but the MCs work well together for this rowdy 5 minute effort. The Solution has the same musical backing, but adds a more recognisable beat and switches up the rapping for more uplifting female vocals as the title would suggest. The singers have a great tone, but I would have preferred a combination of the two mixes. Across the piece all the engineering is undertaken by Rapid, The Riffmaker and Stealth B who do an admirable job of making this sound fat.

Although this appears to only be a demo release, the Special Agents crew are attempting to do it the right way and have a cool full colour picture cover which features them all sitting on some round park bench, the photo taken by Katie Williams. All told a pretty nice if short package which sets out what we can expect from this crew in the future.
