UK Hip Hop Awards 2001After the first successful Hip Hop Awards held last year @ Subterrania, Ladbroke Grove, the second annual Hip Hop awards has triumphed for yet another year. Only this time it was held at Club Sound, Leicester Square in London. Kiss FM's presenter Big Ted and children's presenter Lisa B hosted this years show. For the second time the Hip Hop community got together to pay their respects and give much needed recognition to our UK Hip Hop stars.

Our Hip Hop community traditionally had not had an easy ride. Having this platform to publicly display our British talent has provided a unique opportunity for them to receive the prestige they so deserve, known only to that of their US counterparts. Last night's atmosphere apart from feeling an overwhelming sense of warming support and togetherness saw pride. Fredi Kruga picked up best newcomer, Mark B and Blake got best single and Skitz receiving best UK Hip Hop Album.

It was a Shortee Blitz night however, he picked up no less than three awards, winning categories best Hip Hop personality, best presenter and best DJ. TY won best male Hip Hop Act with Estelle winning it for the ladies. Performances for the night saw the likes of the ever talented Cooly G, 57th Dynasty, Karl Hinds, Moorish Delta7 and many, many more. Those old school guys Blak Twang's performance bought the house down. Overall it was a great night and all I can say is that I was proud to be a part of the UK Hip Hop Awards 2001.
