AD :: The Situation Part 1
AD - The Situation Part 1
AD is a young MC from Birmingham who after recording his The Situation Part 1 demo LP in 2003 is now stepping up to get his name beyond his locale. What he has produced is meant to be a showcase for his lyrical skills. For this LP he has taken some of the biggest recent hits and rapped his own versions over the instrumentals. He is a versatile rapper coping with several styles over the different beats. The opening over Nas' It Ain't Hard To Tell is serious whereas he can get clubby over Usher. He can add a comedy element as he even references 50 Pence over In Da Club. For Just A Friend the comedy is tinged with a social message as he flips a story about STDs. His rapping is clear and on beat, but for me is pretty horrendously American sounding. The flows are solid if not adventurous and he's able to convey a story throughout a track which is a step above a lot of blaggers who get on the mic.

On The LP there are 13 fully though out tracks some of which follow the story of the original like I Get High when he raps about drugs and acting like a gangsta. Or he can get sloppy when he joins Ashanti on In2 U or dirty when he inserts his verse into his version of So Gone with Monica. He's definitely got a popular commercial sound locked but in my opinion needs to come with a Birmingham accent. His Recap Of 2003 is an interesting review of all the mad things that made the news in the last year all wrapped up with a humorous twist. My First Song is his own personal tale in which he emotionally implores everyone to give him a listen cos he has some talent and doesn't want to spend his life flipping burgers.

Apparently he has so far created a buzz in the Birmingham area and is currently writing more tracks. He's aware that he needs original beats and is keen to hook up with producers who'll give him some beats. The 23 year old has his own Big Fam Entertainment imprint and is looking to get serious. Look out for part 2 real soon.
