Kelis - Milkshake CD [Arista]
Kelis - Milkshake
Since breaking onto the scene here in 2000 with her 'I Hate You So Much' single Kelis has always shown she has a unique attitude towards her music and refuses to be pigeon holed. She has gone on to have two albums under her belt and is set to release her third LP entitled Tasty imminently. She has avoided becoming a glamourpuss or pandered to superstardom preferring to let the quality of her work determine how you see her. Maybe now though her direction is changing and we are seeing something which most definitely is increasingly polished and going for a more formulaic pop sound. She's now hooked up with Nas in her personal life and has hooked up with the Neptunes for this track. Whist the Neptunes have been at the top of the pile for sometime now their popularity is waining and it could be that their choice for production could be a hindrance rather than the increasingly expensive guarantee of chart success that it once was. Kelis maintains her distinctive vocal sound and on this track delivers then in a semi-sung, semi rapped sort of style. The Neptunes produce a very jiggly track and all together this is a very catchy track that runs round in your head after just one listen. Hypnotic percussion and a farting distorted bassline make the majority of the simple arrangement along with Indian finger cymbals and pouring water and it is down to Kelis' voice to capture the underlying emotion. This she does and really it leave you wanting more from her LP.

Tasty is not entirely produced by the Neptunes, she's been in the studio with Timbaland, Dallas Austin (TLC, Pink), Dame Grease (DMX), Raphael Saadiq and Wyclef Jean. Sounds like her new album with be just as eclectic as her previous work.

Lyrics:

My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,
and there like,
its better than yours,
damn right its beter than yours,
i can teach you,
but i have to charge!

My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,
and there like,
its better than yours,
damn right its beter than yours,
i can teach you,
but i have to charge!

I know you want it,
the thing that makes me, what the guys go crazy for,
they lose their minds,
the way i whyne,
i think its time,

lala-lalala,
warm it up,
lala-lalala,
the boys are waiting,
lala-lalala
warm it up,
lala-lalala,
the boys are waiting,

My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,
and there like,
its better than yours,
damn right its beter than yours,
i can teach you,
but i have to charge!

My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,
and there like,
its better than yours,
damn right its beter than yours,
i can teach you,
but i have to charge!

i can see your on it,
you want me to teach thee,
techniques that freaks these boys,
it can't be bought,
just know things get caught,
watch if your smart,

lala-lalala,
warm it up,
lala-lalala,
the boys are waiting,
lala-lalala
warm it up,
lala-lalala,
the boys are waiting,

My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,
and there like,
its better than yours,
damn right its beter than yours,
i can teach you,
but i have to charge!

My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,
and there like,
its better than yours,
damn right its beter than yours,
i can teach you,
but i have to charge!

oh once you get involved,
everyone will look this way-so,
you must maintain your charm,
same time maintain your haylo,
just get the perfect(land?),
plus what you have within,
then next his eyes are squint,
then he's picked up your scent,

lala-lalala,
warm it up,
lala-lalala,
the boys are waiting,
lala-lalala
warm it up,
lala-lalala,
the boys are waiting,

My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,
and there like,
its better than yours,
damn right its beter than yours,
i can teach you,
but i have to charge!

My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,
and there like,
its better than yours,
damn right its beter than yours,
i can teach you,
but i have to charge!
